Michelle Piña has 15+ years of experience in education management and out-of-school-time programs. She is currently an independent consultant for organizational management and business development. Her background includes working as a middle school teacher, professional development coordinator, program evaluator and federal grant director. She is also President of the Texas Afterschool Association, a membership organization affiliated with the National Afterschool Association, focused on supporting the professionals of out-of-school time (OST) programs across the state.
Previously, Ms. Piña was a Program Manager for Grant Compliance, for CASE for Kids (Center for Afterschool, Summer, and Enrichment), a division of the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE). Currently, those programs include 20 school-based programs in 11 school districts and funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant. She began with HCDE in 2013 as the ENRICH Research Manager that led to the addition of $550,000 from the City of Houston towards funding local OST programs in partnership with non-profit organizations. Additionally, Ms. Piña has over 10 years of experience in leading and starting up self-funded OST programs for school districts and over 15 years in education management.
